The Treatment

What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage is the classic full-body treatment most people picture when they think of massage. Your therapist works with oil, using long gliding strokes, kneading and gentle circular pressure to warm the muscles and settle the nervous system. Pressure stays light to medium throughout, so it never becomes uncomfortable.

It is the treatment we most often suggest for a first massage, or for anyone who wants to unwind rather than have specific knots worked on. At our Kingston upon Thames clinic you can book it as a full hour for a proper head-to-toe treatment, or thirty minutes if you are short on time.

How It Works

What happens at your appointment

1

A quick chat

We check for any areas of tension, injuries or areas to avoid, and agree the pressure you want.

2

Your massage

You are covered throughout, with only the area being worked on exposed. Tell your therapist any time if you want more or less pressure.

3

Afterwards

Take your time getting up. Drink water and keep the rest of the day gentle where you can.

Aftercare

  • Drink plenty of water afterwards.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for the rest of the day.
  • A warm bath can help if you feel tender the next day.
  • Mild soreness after deep work is normal and settles in a day or two.
  • Tell us next time if you want the pressure adjusted.

Suitability

Is Swedish Massage right for you?

A good fit if…

  • This is your first massage and you are not sure what to expect
  • You want to relax rather than have deep work done
  • Stress, restlessness or poor sleep is your main concern
  • You find firmer pressure uncomfortable
  • You would like a gentle, whole-body treatment

Tell us first if…

  • You are pregnant, so we can adapt the treatment and positioning
  • You have had recent surgery, a fracture or an injury
  • You are having treatment for a heart condition, DVT or circulatory problem
  • You have a skin condition or open area in the region to be massaged

Results and how often: Most people leave feeling loosened and calm the same day, with sleep often improving that night. There is no build-up needed for a Swedish massage to be worthwhile, though monthly sessions help if stress is ongoing.

Good To Know

Swedish Massage FAQs

What is the difference between Swedish and deep tissue massage?
Swedish uses lighter, flowing strokes across the whole body and is aimed at relaxation. Deep tissue uses firmer, more focused pressure on specific tight areas. If you are unsure, start with Swedish and tell us how it feels.
Do I have to undress completely?
No. You undress to the level you are comfortable with, in privacy, and are covered with towels throughout — only the area being worked on is uncovered.
Will I be sore afterwards?
Rarely with Swedish massage, as the pressure stays light to medium. Any tenderness is usually mild and settles within a day.
What should I wear?
Whatever is comfortable. You will be given privacy to undress to your comfort level and are covered throughout.
How much pressure is used?
Whatever you are comfortable with. Tell your therapist at any point and they will adjust — firmer is not always better.
Can I book 30 minutes instead of an hour?
Yes. Thirty minutes suits a specific area, while a full hour allows a proper full-body treatment.
How do I book?
Book online at any time, message us on WhatsApp, or call 07391 213145. If you are not sure which treatment you need, ask us first.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Full details are on our policies page.
