The Difference

Hollywood or Brazilian?

A Hollywood removes everything, front to back. A Brazilian leaves a neat strip or triangle at the front, with everything else removed.

Plenty of people arrive not knowing which they want, or not knowing the difference — that is completely normal. Tell your therapist what you are after and she will talk you through it before starting.

Why hot wax: we use hot wax rather than strip wax for intimate areas. It shrinks around the hair and lifts away from the skin rather than gripping it, which makes it markedly more comfortable on sensitive areas and kinder to the skin afterwards.

Door closed, nobody passing through. Intimate waxing is never carried out in a shared space.

You are covered wherever possible throughout, and only the area being worked on is exposed.

Before you come

Let the hair grow to around a quarter of an inch — roughly two to three weeks. Shower on the day, skip the moisturiser and oil, and wear something loose and comfortable.

During

Your therapist confirms exactly what you want, then works in small sections with hot wax. Most people find it far quicker and more manageable than expected.

Afterwards

A soothing product is applied. Avoid heat and exercise for 24–48 hours, then exfoliate gently from day three to keep ingrown hairs away.

Before your wax

  • Two to three weeks of growth — about a quarter of an inch.
  • Shower on the day, but no moisturiser, oil or talc on the area.
  • Pause body retinol and acids for a few days beforehand.
  • Tell us about medication — some affects skin sensitivity.

After your wax

  • No heat for 24–48 hours — baths, saunas, steam, sunbeds, gym.
  • Loose cotton underwear for the rest of the day.
  • Start exfoliating from day three to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Rebook every four to six weeks — it gets easier each time.

Hollywood wax FAQs

What is the difference between a Hollywood and a Brazilian?
A Hollywood removes all the hair, front to back. A Brazilian leaves a neat strip or triangle at the front. If you are unsure, tell your therapist what you would like on the day — it is a completely normal question and there is no awkwardness in asking.
Does it hurt?
The first appointment is the most sensitive, and it becomes considerably easier with regular visits as the hair grows back finer. We use hot wax for intimate areas because it shrinks around the hair rather than gripping the skin, which is noticeably more comfortable than strip wax.
How long does the hair need to be?
Around a quarter of an inch, or roughly two to three weeks of growth. If it is much shorter the wax cannot grip it; if it is very long we can trim it for you at the start of the appointment.
How long does the appointment take?
Usually around 30 minutes for a Hollywood, including time to get settled. Your first appointment may take slightly longer as we talk through what you want.
How often should I come back?
Every four to six weeks keeps the regrowth on the same cycle, which is what makes waxing progressively more comfortable. Leaving it much longer resets that.
Is it private?
Yes. Intimate waxing is carried out in a private room with the door closed, by an experienced female therapist. You are covered wherever possible throughout, and you can stop at any point.
Can I have it during my period?
Yes, provided you are wearing a tampon or a cup. Skin can feel more sensitive around that time, so some clients prefer to book a few days either side.
What should I do beforehand?
Shower on the day and avoid moisturiser or oil on the area. Do not exfoliate immediately before. If you are using retinol or acids on the body, pause them for a few days beforehand.
What about aftercare?
Avoid heat for 24–48 hours — hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds and heavy exercise. Wear loose cotton underwear that day, and start gently exfoliating after about three days to prevent ingrown hairs.
