The Treatment

What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian head massage works across the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face — the areas where screen work and stress tend to collect. It is carried out seated or lying, and can be done without oil, which makes it a practical treatment if you are fitting it around a working day.

Firm circular pressure over the shoulders and neck releases the muscles that pull on the base of the skull, while lighter work over the scalp is deeply relaxing. People who get tension headaches, or who finish the day with a stiff neck and tired eyes, tend to get the most from it.

How It Works

What happens at your appointment

1

A quick chat

We check for any areas of tension, injuries or areas to avoid, and agree the pressure you want.

2

Your massage

You are covered throughout, with only the area being worked on exposed. Tell your therapist any time if you want more or less pressure.

3

Afterwards

Take your time getting up. Drink water and keep the rest of the day gentle where you can.

Aftercare

  • Drink plenty of water afterwards.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for the rest of the day.
  • A warm bath can help if you feel tender the next day.
  • Mild soreness after deep work is normal and settles in a day or two.
  • Tell us next time if you want the pressure adjusted.

Suitability

Is Indian Head Massage right for you?

A good fit if…

  • You get tension headaches or a tight jaw
  • Long hours at a screen leave your neck and shoulders stiff
  • You want a treatment you can have without undressing
  • You struggle to switch off or sleep
  • You would like something restorative in a short appointment

Tell us first if…

  • You have a recent neck or shoulder injury
  • You have a scalp condition or recent scalp treatment
  • You suffer with migraine and are currently in an episode
  • You have had recent surgery to the head, neck or shoulders

Results and how often: Relief in the neck and shoulders is usually immediate, and many people find the head feels clearer for a day or two afterwards. If you get tension headaches regularly, a session every three to four weeks is a sensible rhythm.

Good To Know

Indian Head Massage FAQs

Do I need to undress?
No. Indian head massage is carried out through light clothing or on bare shoulders, whichever you prefer — there is no need to undress fully.
Will it leave my hair oily?
Only if you would like oil used. Say when you book and we can work without it, which suits people fitting the treatment into a working day.
Can it help with headaches?
Many clients book it for exactly that reason, as much tension headache comes from tight neck and shoulder muscles. It is not a medical treatment, so see your GP for frequent or severe headaches.
What should I wear?
Whatever is comfortable. You will be given privacy to undress to your comfort level and are covered throughout.
How much pressure is used?
Whatever you are comfortable with. Tell your therapist at any point and they will adjust — firmer is not always better.
Can I book 30 minutes instead of an hour?
Yes. Thirty minutes suits a specific area, while a full hour allows a proper full-body treatment.
How do I book?
Book online at any time, message us on WhatsApp, or call 07391 213145. If you are not sure which treatment you need, ask us first.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Full details are on our policies page.
