The Treatment

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue around it. Rather than covering the whole body evenly, your therapist spends longer on the areas holding tension — commonly the shoulders, upper back, lower back and legs.

It suits people who carry tension from desk work, training or long hours on their feet, and who find lighter massage does not quite reach the problem. Pressure is always agreed with you and adjusted as you go; firmer is not automatically better, and we would rather work at a level you can relax into.

How It Works

What happens at your appointment

1

A quick chat

We check for any areas of tension, injuries or areas to avoid, and agree the pressure you want.

2

Your massage

You are covered throughout, with only the area being worked on exposed. Tell your therapist any time if you want more or less pressure.

3

Afterwards

Take your time getting up. Drink water and keep the rest of the day gentle where you can.

Aftercare

  • Drink plenty of water afterwards.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for the rest of the day.
  • A warm bath can help if you feel tender the next day.
  • Mild soreness after deep work is normal and settles in a day or two.
  • Tell us next time if you want the pressure adjusted.

Suitability

Is Deep Tissue Massage right for you?

A good fit if…

  • You hold persistent tension in the neck, shoulders or back
  • You train regularly and want help with recovery
  • Desk work or driving leaves you stiff
  • Lighter massage has not made much difference
  • You want focused work on specific areas

Tell us first if…

  • You bruise easily or take blood-thinning medication
  • You are pregnant, so we can adapt the treatment
  • You have a recent injury, fracture or inflamed joint
  • You are being treated for a circulatory condition

Results and how often: You should feel looser immediately, though it is normal to feel mildly tender for a day or two after deep work — much like after exercise. For long-standing tension, a session every two to four weeks tends to hold the improvement better than occasional one-offs.

Good To Know

Deep Tissue Massage FAQs

Is deep tissue massage painful?
It should feel like firm, satisfying pressure rather than pain. Tell your therapist at any point and they will ease off — you should always be able to breathe normally and stay relaxed.
How long should I book?
Thirty minutes works well for one area such as the back and shoulders. Choose the full hour if you want more than one area addressed properly.
How soon can I train afterwards?
Keep the rest of the day gentle and avoid heavy training. Most people are back to normal sessions the following day.
What should I wear?
Whatever is comfortable. You will be given privacy to undress to your comfort level and are covered throughout.
How much pressure is used?
Whatever you are comfortable with. Tell your therapist at any point and they will adjust — firmer is not always better.
Can I book 30 minutes instead of an hour?
Yes. Thirty minutes suits a specific area, while a full hour allows a proper full-body treatment.
How do I book?
Book online at any time, message us on WhatsApp, or call 07391 213145. If you are not sure which treatment you need, ask us first.
